Over the past trimester I have grown so much as a photographer. I came into this class not knowing anything about cameras or why good pictures look good. I have learned how to properly adjust cameras and how to make a great photo using composition tools. Some of my favorite tools are color and depth of field. I have realized working with the cameras provided in the class they do not give me the depth of field that I want so I have purchased my own camera. I have purchased a DSLR camera with a 50mm lens to give a aperture of F1.8. This with make a very short depth of field which is great for portrait photos. My favorite picture I took this year was my Open: Light & People. I wanted to show light on my models face to give a rockstar feel. To do this I turned the lights off and turned the red and blue lights on. I was skeptical of it working because we where in such a dark room and the class cameras do not do well in the dark. I also had to use an extremely low shutter speed that can result in blurry photos. However the outcome was just what I wanted and I am so happy with how they look. By taking this class I realized that I love taking pictures of people, so much that for almost every assignment has a person in it. I love to play with light and color on up close faces to convey a feeling. I have even been asked multiple times to take pictures of people because they have seen my work and have liked it. I'm not really into taking plain pictures of people, I like taking interesting photos that you don't see everyday. My least favorite photo this trimester was Event. The pictures where very basic and not special at all. However I do want to work on taking more traditional portrait picture, like senior pictures, and see if I change my mind about them. Over the trimester I have learned so much and now I can take what I have learned and build on it to become an even better photographer, I can not wait to see what I do. For this assignment we had to pick two words and create photo to describe them. We where able to do this with all of the Photoshop skills we have learned over the past trimester. I think this was really easy. I decided to blend the photos because I think it looked best and most professional. I picked fun words some people would not know and I choose picture that represented them. I also included so shapes to convey they word even more. Overall this assignment was fun and easy.
For this weeks assignment we had to find different pictures and put them together to make puns for people to guess what they are. We used our Photoshop skills of what we have learned over the trimester to put all of the images together. This assignment was pretty easy. The hardest part was trying to come up with puns. I decided to do two easy ones and one harder one. I think they turned out nice and are pretty funny as well. It will be fun to guess all the puns in class and see what people came up with.
This week I decided to take up close pictures of people. I focused on the eyes and put interesting colors to catch the viewers eye. I also included other objects to enhance to color around the eyes. I did not do a lot of editing. All I did was adjust the brightness and contrast a little and cropped the image the follow the rule of thirds composition tool. This week I worked with a SLR camera. I thought it would be a lot better than the point-&-shoot cameras but I did not notice the difference in the picture. The camera I used also sometimes just refused to take the picture which was very annoying. However the lighting was very bad, it was extremely dark outside but that was the only day I could take pictures. I liked my picture of the week but I wished it was even more focused. However I am getting my own camera and hopefully it will be better.
For this assignment we had to take multiple pictures and then merge them together to create one. By doing this it looks like their are multiple people of the same person. I think this assignment was pretty easy. All I had to do was use the lasso tool to select and then add a layer mask. I had to take the pictures in manual so the light would all be the same. It was difficult for the stairs to line up and all the lighting to be the same even though I put the camera in manual on a tripod. Overall it was fun and I would do it again.
For this assignment I decided to do back & white. I took pictures of a model like usual. I found it best to keep the picture as simple as possible to have more focus on the model and have it look old school. I edited this photo by making the picture black and white. I also increased the contrast and painted her highlight white and her contour lines black to make them more prominent. Then I darken the background the provide more focus on the subject. I think this assignment went well. I wanted the picture to look older and I think I accomplished this with the black and white and the fur coat I included. I wish the background was more blurry but that is what my camera aloud me to do. I like how you can see the texture of the coat and how the highlights and contour lines came out after editing. During the shoot I was also losing light so I had to work fast. Overall I think it went well and the black and white really enhanced my picture.
For this assignment we had to take picture in a studio set up and then take picture out of the studio with a white board. Then we went into photoshop, adjusted sizes, and framed the images with our names on it. I think this assignment went well. The studio lighting turned out well. The non studio picture did not turn out as well. I think it would have turned out better if I had natural light, but I had to make do with what I had. I took the picture in the hallway and the lighting was not too bad, it turned out better than I thought. I love taking pictures of people but this seemed boring. I like taking pictures with cool lights and weird shadows. This assignment was too 'school picture' for me.
For this weeks assignment I decided to do Light Painting. Light Painting entails have a source of light a a really long shutter speed in a dark area. You move the light to where you want to be in the picture to make cool concepts and interesting pictures. I edited this picture by doing a couple things. I first adjusted the brightness and darkness. Then I blacked out the background to focus on the subject. I also dimmed foreground to be not so bright. Lastly I blacked out myself because you could kinda see me behind the model. I think this assignment went well. For my light source I used sparklers. I think it was fun trying to make different things from the light. It was a struggle to keep the model still because any little movements from the model would show up in the picture because I had a ten second shutter speed. However the light showed up very well. I tried a normal light as well as the sparklers but any time I messed, I could tell because the light was a straight line while the sparkler was a little more messy allowing me space for mess ups. Overall I was happy with how the photos turned out.
For this assignment we had to look at different Photoshop tutorials and try to create them ourselves. The purpose of this assignment was to show the the internet can teach us many different things about Photoshop. We had the do the Color Pop and then we got to pick which tutorials we did after that. Color Pophttps://digital-photography-school.com/mono-with-a-dash-of-colour-photoshop-cs2-tutorial/ Blending picturesBefore https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/photo-blend/ Screen Jumping effectBefore https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/screen-jump/ Creating a sphereBefore https://photoshopstar.com/how-to-create-mental-sphere/ I had mix feelings about these tutorials. The Color Pop tutorial was super easy and fun to do. The other ones where a little bit more challenging because if you missed one step the picture would not turn out. I didn't like not knowing what to do, I like when someone teaches it to me first. However I learned many new tools by working on this assignment. I learned how to reveal color and blend photos which I think I can utilize one day. I also learned how to make a picture look like it is coming out of another picture. Finally I learned how to bend and distort a circle to make it look like a sphere. This assignment were not to hard but sometimes they got extremely frustrating.
For this assignment I decided to take pictures of my dog. The goal was to capture the activity or nature of the animal. I think I accomplished this by showing a happy dog with a smile on her face. I did no editing to this picture. I think this assignment went really well. My dog is very fidgety and can't still still for too long, but we where able to get through that. I took the picture when the sun was setting so the lighting was good and it casted cool shadows on her face. Also the lighting really brought out the color on her fur. I wasn't sure I would like taking pictures of something besides people but I really like taking pictures of my dog.
